🇦🇷 The Controversial Libra Token

February, like January, was marked by a high-profile token – this time not from the U.S. president but from Argentina’s President Javier Milei. However, the story unfolded quite differently.

📅 On February 15 at 17:01 (EST), Milei posted and pinned a tweet stating: ‘This private project will be dedicated to encouraging the growth of the Argentine economy by funding small Argentine businesses and startups’. There was little doubt about the authenticity of the post, as it was widely shared by Argentine politicians.

Following the announcement, the LIBRA token skyrocketed to a $4.5B FDV. Shortly after, eight wallets linked to the project’s team withdrew $57.6M in USDC and 249,671 SOL ($49.7M) – funds extracted through liquidity manipulation and fees.

🚨 Essentially, this was a textbook rug pull: the team launched a token, fueled hype, pumped the price 📈, and then drained liquidity, leaving retail investors with a crashing asset. Milei later deleted the tweet and claimed he was unaware of the project, alleging that his political opponents had set him up.

The Libra token was launched on the Solana blockchain, just like Trump and Melania’s memecoins in January. However, back then, SOL was rallying as traders bought in to invest in Trump-related assets. This time, the situation flipped – the negative sentiment, community outrage, and the $49M SOL outflow from Libra triggered a sharp decline. Over four days, SOL dropped 20%, facing intense sell pressure.

🤔 It’s unlikely that President Milei was aware of the incoming rug pull, but his attempt to spotlight Argentina’s economy turned into a major scandal. Regardless, the LIBRA incident is a clear example of how quickly assets can be inflated – and how fast millions can vanish.

🔎 This case once again proves that even if a statement comes from a head of state, blind trust is a dangerous game. Always conduct your own research. DYOR remains the golden rule in crypto.
