Jan 3, 2009 – Bitcoin's genesis block. Coinbase message: "Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks."

Jan 2009 – Hal Finney tweets "Running bitcoin," and receives the first peer-to-peer BTC transaction days later.

Feb 2014 – Mt. Gox collapses. ~850,000 BTC gone.

Nov 2022 – FTX collapses. ~$8B in customer funds missing.

2026 – More value than ever sits in self-custodial wallets.

The instinct won. But it only won the first round.
