Kaspa is a fast and scalable Layer-1 blockchain based on the Proof-of-Work algorithm. Unlike traditional blockchains with a linear chain structure, Kaspa uses a DAG structure where blocks can be created in parallel. This enables the network to achieve high throughput of 10 blocks per second, with a future goal of reaching 100 blocks.

Kaspa uses a unique GHOSTDAG protocol that doesn’t discard competing blocks, but instead orders them in a Directed Acyclic Graph (blockDAG). This allows the network to process transactions at internet speed while maintaining a high level of decentralization and security.

The project was launched in 2021 with no presale or VC control. It was founded by Dr. Yonatan Sompolinsky, who conducted research on scalable PoW systems under the supervision of Prof. Aviv Zohar. Early development was carried out at DAGLabs with support from Polychain Capital, but today the project is fully decentralized.
