· Australia maintains a universal visa system designed to support migration outcomes in the national interest.

· All visa applicants, regardless of nationality, must meet the eligibility requirements set out in Australia’s migration legislation before a visa can be granted.

· Application processing times :

- vary depending on factors such as application complexity, completeness, overall demand, Ministerial Direction priorities, and Migration Program planning levels.

- can also be affected by departmental processing requirements, including verification of applicant information (e.g. education and employment history) and the time taken to receive clearances from external agencies, particularly for health, character, and national security assessments.

· Some visa processing is currently impacted by conflict related constraints in Iran, such as internet outages.

· These disruptions are affecting applicants’ ability to access key requirements, such as providing biometrics, completing medical examinations, and obtaining essential documentation (e.g. police clearances and passports) from Iranian authorities.

- Despite this, overall processing times for Iranian clients in Skilled and Family migration program streams remain in line with the bulk of the caseloads.

- Should these processing constraints continue for an extended period this may lead to increased processing times for Iranian nationals.

· For 2026-27, processing times for some offshore applicants will likely increase, with onshore visa applications being prioritised for processing under the Migration Program.
