一位加州大学圣克鲁斯分校的生物化学家指出，尽管公司开发阿尔茨海默病药物已花费数十年和数十亿美元瞄准由于其在患者脑中造成有害沉积物的作用的β-淀粉样，但这位生物化学家认为该肽有一个被忽视的“表亲”，它也可能是神经毒性。
