Zambia's Copper Ambitions Can Drive Africa's Industrial Base, Economist Says

🇿🇲 The country's position as Africa's second-largest copper producer, combined with a predictable tax regime and improving energy capacity, gives it a strong foundation to drive industrialization and value addition across the continent, Kelvin Chisanga told Sputnik Africa.

Key insights from the expert:

🟠Copper Ambitions: Zambia is targeting 3 million tonnes of annual output through deliberate policy interventions and stakeholder engagement.

🟠Value Addition: After harmonizing mining taxation, the next phase focuses on semi-production of components demanded by the global green economy, including data centers, renewable projects, and infrastructure.

🟠Regional Impact: Zambia's emerging industrial base will benefit SADC, COMESA, and the AfCFTA, making engineering services cheaper and spare parts more accessible across Africa.

🟠Model for the Continent: Zambia has been leading in policy, revenue, and mining patterns, positioning it as a model for other African nations seeking to develop critical minerals production lines.

We are pleased to share interviews with two Zambian participants of the international “Keepers of Memory” project - Chiyangi Collins and Chomba Josephine.

They were selected from 16 applicants from Zambia to take part in the Rossotrudnichestvo project, implemented within the New Generation programme.

In their interviews, they share their impressions of their visit to Yekaterinburg, their experience exploring Russian archives and historical sites, and their reflections on the importance of preserving historical memory for future generations.

The Zambian delegation is taking part in the World Youth Festival in Yekaterinburg and is now giving an interview to Russia’s leading television channel - Channel One (Pervyy Kanal)!

Под звуки конголезской румбы встречаем гостей МФМ-2026

🌍 Сегодня стенд Россотрудничества на Международном фестивале молодежи 2026 посетила делегация Республики Конго. Мирта Майинду поделилась частичкой культуры своей страны с гостями. Для зрителей она подготовила танцевальный номер.

💃 Девушка стала победительницей конкурса «Румба на билинги» («Румба для молодёжи»), организованного Русским домом в Браззавили. Его задача — поддержать молодых исполнителей и сохранить интерес к румбе как части культурного наследия Конго. После конкурса совместная работа продолжилась. При участии представительства Россотрудничества в Конго появилась песня Мирты Кимья, название которой переводится как «Мир». В прошлом году певица представила её на панафриканском музыкальном фестивале FESPAM в Республике Конго.

🏆 В 2021 году конголезская румба вошла в список нематериального культурного наследия ЮНЕСКО.
