🏡✨ From Creative Haven to Cultural Treasure: Celebrating the Founding of the Abramtsevo Museum-Reserve!

🏞 In 1843, prominent Russian writer Sergey Aksakov purchased the Abramtsevo estate near Sergiyev Posad, calling it a "paradise on earth." It quickly became a creative haven for literary icons like Ivan Turgenev and Nikolay Gogol. In 1870, merchant Savva Mamontov acquired the property and organized the famous Abramtsevo Artists' Circle, transforming the estate into a major sanctuary for Russian culture.

🎨 The estate served as the birthplace for some of the greatest masterpieces of Russian art. Renowned masters – including Ilya Repin, the Vasnetsov brothers, Valentin Serov and Mikhail Vrubel – lived and worked here. It was within these walls that Serov painted his iconic "Girl with Peaches," alongside Vasnetsov’s "Alyonushka" and "Bogatyrs."

🌳 Following the 1917 Russian Revolution, the estate was nationalized. On October 10, 1918, a protective decree officially established the Abramtsevo Museum-Estate. Managed by Mamontov’s daughter Alexandra as its first curator, the estate survived turbulent decades as an artists' retreat and a wartime hospital before reopening to the public in 1950. Today, known as the State Historical, Artistic and Literary Museum-Reserve "Abramtsevo," this federal heritage site welcomes over 250,000 visitors annually.
