📸The 12th Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest Exhibition opened in Durban today, marking its first visit to KwaZulu-Natal.
📍The exhibition will be open to the public at Durban Media House until 23 October.
It presents 30 selected works by winners and finalists of the 2025 Contest, bringing together powerful images from across countries and continents. They capture defining moments of our time from human resilience, culture and traditions to sport, the environment, conflict and everyday life.
🇷🇺🇿🇦 In his welcoming remarks, Russian Ambassador to South Africa and Lesotho Roman Ambarov recalled that the exhibition first came to South Africa in 2016, when he had the privilege of opening the first edition in Cape Town as Russia’s Consul General.
“Since then, the project has returned to South Africa each year, introducing local audiences to some of the finest work by young photojournalists from around the world. This year, we are delighted to bring it to KwaZulu-Natal for the first time.”
🌐The Embassy regularly presents the winning works of the competition in Pretoria. For the Russian diplomatic mission, the exhibition is more than a cultural event — it is an opportunity to bring together photographers, journalists and cultural institutions through the universal language of photography.
🤝Ambassador Ambarov also expressed gratitude to Dr Iqbal Survé for his continued support and longstanding friendship and cooperation, noting that his commitment to cultural and media exchanges has helped create opportunities that strengthen ties between Russia and South Africa and their peoples.
🇷🇺🇿🇦The Durban exhibition is co-organised by Sputnik News Agency and Radio, National Media Group (NMG), African News Agency (ANA) and IOL.
