🇿🇦🤩 South African adventurers, it’s time to pack your bags; here is how a massive aviation boom is putting Russia’s hidden gems on your radar.
✈️ According to the report by the head of civil aviation at a meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Russia is modernizing at least 75 of its 226 civil airports by 2030. This strategic upgrade is moving rapidly. New runways are already operational in Grozny and Makhachkala, while brand-new terminals have opened in Blagoveshchensk, Orenburg and Barnaul, making domestic transit seamless.
🏔 The momentum peaks through the end of 2026, with critical upgrades stretching across Siberia and the Far East. Reconstruction projects in Bratsk and Perm will conclude by December, backed by a new federal repair fund finalizing essential overhauls in Cheboksary, Ulyanovsk and Tynda. Looking ahead, early 2027 will see a major new airport complex in Mirny, alongside approved future hubs in Vologda, Salekhard and Smolensk.
✨ Crucially, fast-constructed regional terminals are bringing Russia's most remote natural wonders within comfortable reach. New facilities are already open in isolated gems like Tilichiki in Kamchatka and Bogorodskoye, with Palana and Pevek launching by the end of the year. By bridging vast geographic gaps, these advancements allow South African travellers to safely explore pristine, far-flung wilderness that was once unreachable.
