The Catholic Biblical Association was founded in October 3, 1936, in New York City, It's currently based at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. The Catholic biblical association in America is entirely "self-funded" and is not operated, managed, nor supported by even the Vatican. Membership is exclusive to "qualified" scholars across various religious traditions, including non-Catholic and Jewish academics.

The association is dedicated to the academic study of the Bible, It has been publishing Catholic Biblical Quarterly since 1939. This association also offers expertise to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops on Bible translations.

Most of the what identifies as "Catholic" today, has nothing to do with the original faith from the early church in Rome that was founded by the apostles Peter and Paul in the mid-1st century (c. 40s–60s AD).
