85 Years of the Soviet Information Bureau
Today the ‘Russia Today’ media group is opening a major photographic exhibition ‘85 years of the Soviet Information Bureau: History Brought to Life. An Era Captured in Photographs’.
The exhibition features works by RIA Novosti photographers, taken from the 1940s to the 2020s: the Battle of Stalingrad, the 1945 Victory Parade, Gagarin’s first flight, the Olympic Games in Moscow, Sochi and Milan, the work of peacekeeping forces, and meetings between world leaders.
A distinctive feature of the exhibition is the combination of images from the heroic past with modern technology, which brings historical photographs to life. Visitors see not only static black-and-white or colour images, but also movement and changing perspectives. The moments captured cease to be frozen in time — the past literally comes to life before one’s eyes, offering a fresh perspective on familiar chapters of history.
The history of the photographs is closely linked to the Soviet Information Bureau, established in 1941. It was later transformed into the ‘Novosti’ Press Agency (APN), and subsequently into RIA Novosti, whose traditions are continued today by the ‘Russia Today’ media group. The archive, compiled over 85 years, provides the material for this exhibition.
