Top jockey calls for racing tourism push
Star Hong Kong jockey Vincent Ho said he hopes more can be done to promote horse racing tourism in the city, saying it could benefit the entire hospitality sector. Ho, 36, who recently became the first jockey to be named Hong Kong's Ten Outstanding Young Persons, told RTHK's Backchat programme that horse racing is iconic and unique in Hong Kong, and that the city can attract the world's best horses to compete here. "With all our races, we have December Longines International, and then April we have Champions Day. There are really a lot of international great races that attract the best overseas equine, best racehorses to come. And these are the great opportunities to promote tourism as well," he said. "Because a lot of people who fancy or are into horse racing around the globe, they will come because they want to watch these races." On the award, he said the honour reflects not just on him but also the entire racing industry. Ho thanked the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the opportunities and resources it provided. He also gave special mention to "Golden Sixty", the former Hong Kong Derby winner and champion miler that he partnered with. Edited by Edmond Fong
