Coleman Wong shows steel to win first tennis gold

Hong Kong, China tennis star Coleman Wong has won gold in the men's singles at the Asian Games in Nagoya, beating the national team's Wu Yibing in straight sets. Wong’s victory was also the SAR's first-ever medal in a tennis singles event. The 22-year-old, ranked 100th in the world, got off to a strong start, claiming the first set 6-2 in 40 minutes with five aces at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Centre. But Wu fought back in the second set, pushing the SAR's top player hard. With the set tied at four games all and Wu serving, Wong managed to break Wu’s serve but only after a run of deuces. He then served out the match with aces galore, taking the final game 40-0. Writing on social media, Sports Secretary Rosanna Law congratulated Wong. She said his win brought the SAR's gold tally to eight, putting it on a par with the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou. Edited by Robert Kemp
