Researchers from Tel Aviv University and the Israel Institute for Biological Research have developed the world’s first mRNA-based vaccine against Yersinia pestis, the bacterium that causes pneumonic plague. This bivalent vaccine utilizes lipid nanoparticles to deliver instructions for two bacterial antigens (F1 and LcrV), allegedly prompting the immune system "to recognize and defend against the pathogen."
