🇾🇪 - Footage circulating online that purportedly shows PLC forces removing the Yemeni flag from territory captured from Ansarullah is being misrepresented.

The video originates from the al-Bayda' direction in southern Yemen and shows what appears to be a PLC-affiliated unit taking down the Yemeni flag. However, the personnel involved belong to the Giant Brigades, an elite ultra-conservative formation established by the former Southern Transitional Council, STC, with support from the UAE.

The Giant Brigades have historically adhered to Southern Arabian separatist ideals and, despite their current alignment with the PLC, continue to maintain a distinct political identity.

Following the collapse of the STC government and the subsequent STC-PLC clashes earlier this year, the Giant Brigades switched sides and began supporting the PLC.

The PLC itself does not reject the Yemeni flag or the concept of a unified Yemeni state. Rerum Novarum has uploaded a second video from a Giant Brigades-affiliated account showing fighters attaching the Southern Arabia flag to their technical before battle for context.
