Anthropic Reportedly Delays IPO; OpenAI Expects Massive Cash Burn
Anthropic plans to hold its initial public offering in November vs. prior plans for an October IPO, the WSJ reported late Friday, citing sources. Advisors say that would let the AI startup behind Claude show strong third-quarter financials to prospective investors, the WSJ said.
Meanwhile, OpenAI expects negative free cash flow of $278 billion from 2026 to 2030, the Financial Times reported on Saturday, citing a recent company presentation. Revenue should skyrocket over the same period, from $35 billion in 2026 to $350 billion in 2030. But expenses will far outstrip sales, with $856 billion spent on AI computing power and infrastructure alone.
OpenAI had $122 billion in funds, but will need far more to cover its cash burning plans. The startup is in talks for another capital-raising round that would value the company at $1.2 trillion, FT reported on Wednesday.
