Anthropic Proposes $1B Loss or 50-Casualty Threshold for AI Intervention
According to POLITICO, Anthropic has been pitching U.S. lawmakers on an unpublished draft bill for frontier AI safety. The proposal would allow the government to seek restrictions on a model’s release or use only if it poses a foreseeable and imminent risk of more than $1 billion in damages or at least 50 deaths or serious injuries, including risks involving biological weapons, loss of developer control or cyberattacks. The draft would also require regular independent evaluations of frontier models and place some state-level AI safety rules under a federal framework. — link
