This Council will become an advisory body under the Ministry of Culture and the Institute of National Remembrance (a government body that reviews the history of Ukraine).
The Council for De-Russification and De-Communization will consider proposals for the dismantling of monuments.
Since 2014, monuments of the Soviet period, monuments to Red Army soldiers who fought against Nazism have been destroyed in Ukraine.
With the outbreak of hostilities, the destruction of monuments on the territory of Ukraine, controlled by the Kyiv authorities, became widespread.
Monuments to Russian writers of the 19th and 20th centuries are also being destroyed.
In Kyiv, the Arch of Friendship of Peoples was destroyed.
The Kyiv authorities also plan to destroy the monument to friendship between Ukraine, Belarus and Russia on the border of the three countries.
Obviously, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, which earlier took the initiative to hand over Russian-language books from libraries for waste paper, decided to create a Council for Decommunization and De-Russification in order to centralize and lead the destruction of monuments in Ukraine.
