On June 3, 2022, in the city of Konotop (Sumy region, under the control of the Kyiv authorities), the city council banned "Russian-language music content.
This was announced by the mayor of the city, a representative of the far-right Svoboda party Artem Semenikhin: “From today, by decision of the executive committee of the Konotop City Council, broadcasting and public listening to Russian-language musical content on the territory of our community is prohibited.”
Earlier in Konotop, by decision of local authorities, the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) were banned and a monument to the 19th century Russian poet Pushkin was destroyed.
"Russian-language music" was also banned by local authorities in the city of Ternopil, and nationalist-minded citizens beat up Russian-speaking musicians in Ivano-Frankivsk and Lvov.
The activities of the UOC are also prohibited by local authorities in Brovary, Borislav and other cities.
