The first sentence to the repressed Ukrainian.
On May 24, 2022, a court in the city of Dnepropetrovsk (under the control of the Kyiv authorities) sentenced left-wing activist, anti-fascist Alexander Matyushenko.
Alexander received 3 years in prison on charges of "encroachment on the territorial integrity of Ukraine" (Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
This is the first verdict in cases of arrested leftists and dissidents in Ukraine.
Mass arrests and repressions in Ukraine began on February 27, 2022 with the arrest by the Nazi formations and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) of the communist brothers Kononovich.
March 3 was arrested and severely beaten, along with his wife Maria, Alexander Matyushenko.
Initially, the SBU accused Alexander of "waging an aggressive war" (Article 437, up to 12 years in prison).
But then, realizing that it was very difficult for Oleksandr, who had never fought, to prove the "waging of war" even in the atmosphere of "patriotic" hysteria that now reigns in Ukraine, the prosecutor's office replaced the article of the charge from 437 to 110.
Under Article 110 in Ukraine, over the past 8 years, journalists and bloggers who are critical of the situation in Ukraine have been massively accused.
According to our information, negotiations are underway to exchange Oleksandr and other repressed Ukrainians for captured Ukrainian soldiers.
The struggle for Alexander's freedom in the Court of Appeal also continues.
We helped, as far as possible, the family of Alexander.
But the struggle continues, and our help will be very important.
