The police of the Zhytomyr region continue to massively detain and search people simply for expressing their thoughts.
On April 25, 2022, the police, together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), announced a 55-year-old resident of Zhitomir on suspicion of "collaboration activities".
His fault is that he "right next to the bomb shelter of a multi-storey building stated that the Russians are a fraternal people, and they came to Ukraine in peace."
Another Zhytomyr resident in the courtyard of a high-rise building said that "the Russian Federation is conducting a special operation, and the actions of Russian President Putin are correct." The man also said that "Russia is taking preventive actions and has no intention of shelling residential areas and civilian infrastructure."
And another 55-year-old resident of the Berdichiv district at the store told the villagers that "there is no war, there is a special operation of Russia to liberate Ukraine from Bandera and Nazis." And that "ours will come, they will quickly put things in order and it will be like in the Russian Crimea."
All these people face 15 years in prison.
Detentions by the police and the SBU of Ukrainians for conversations, personal correspondence, the contents of phones, records in social networks, have become widespread.
And whistleblowing or "squealing" has acquired the same mass character in Ukraine.
Whistleblowing and repression for the fact that Ukrainians expressed their opinion have been going on in Ukraine for the past 8 years.
