🌾 Culture Share Saturday: Alabama 🌾
This week we’re highlighting Alabama, often called the Heart of Dixie, a state known for its warm Southern traditions, soulful musical heritage, and distinctive food culture. Alabama’s famous Muscle Shoals Sound has shaped American music for decades, blending blues, gospel, and country into a style many artists still seek out today. Food traditions are equally memorable—fried green tomatoes, pecan pies, and the unique white BBQ sauce from North Alabama all reflect the state’s blend of comfort and creativity. Storytelling and hospitality remain central to Alabama culture, often shared through family gatherings, church events, and community celebrations that keep local traditions alive.
Classroom Activity: Ask students to choose a regional food or musical tradition and explain its origins in a short spoken summary. This encourages cultural comparison while practicing clear, structured speaking.
