Picnic.
You’ve probably seen its Amsterdam-based tech openings pop up in this channel many times.
Last year, we also published a detailed introduction to Picnic in our Substack newsletter, The Global Move.
Our founder got a chance to interview Picnic’s CTO, Daniel.
It was a really interesting conversation, and we turned it into a Substack post to share it with you.
It ended up being a detailed look at how AI is actually changing a 400-person engineering organization. Not just how engineers write code, but how teams work, what they build, how they experiment, and even how Picnic hires.
The conversation covers why producing more code and shipping more releases doesn’t necessarily create more value, where the engineering bottleneck moves when implementation becomes much easier, and what a Product Engineer looks like in this new environment.
Andrew also spoke with Picnic’s recruiting team about the hiring side of things: what they look for in engineers today, how they read resumes, whether GitHub and cover letters still matter, and what they actually want to see when a candidate says they’re using AI.
So quite a packed piece and well worth a read.
