Iraqi Tribe Announces Recovery of Ship from Somali Pirates After a Month of Hijacking
The Iraqi Al-Shaghanba tribe announced, in a statement, that its members had succeeded in recovering a ship owned by a businessman from the tribe, after approximately a month since its hijacking off the Somali coasts.
The statement clarified that the ship was transporting oil from the UAE to European countries when Somali pirates seized it and demanded a large sum of money in exchange for its release.
It added that the tribe's members reached the ship after tracking it and coordinating with the Somali government, engaging in a confrontation that lasted more than five hours, which, according to the statement, ended with the killing of several kidnappers, the capture of others, and the seizure of their weapons.
The statement did not mention the ship's name or details about its crew and their condition, nor did it specify the numbers of those killed and captured.
