The Labels We Wear vs. The Name He Speaks
Isaiah 43:1
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
Life has a way of handing us labels. Failure. Addict. Divorced. Rejected. Not good enough. Too old. Damaged. Sometimes those labels come from other people, sometimes from painful experiences, and sometimes from the voice inside our own head repeating something we started believing years ago.
The danger comes when a label stops describing something that happened to us and starts defining who we believe we are. A past failure can become “I am a failure.” A rejection can become “I am unlovable.” A mistake can become “I will never change.” That is why the way we think about ourselves matters so much.
But God does not call you by your worst day. He knows your history, your wounds, your mistakes, and every part of the story, yet He still says, “I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” What God speaks over your life carries more authority than what your past, your critics, or even your own mind has tried to call you.
Pay attention to the labels you have been wearing. Some of them may have been attached to you for so long that you forgot you were allowed to take them off. You are not required to keep answering to a name God never gave you.
✝️ PRAYER OF THE DAY:
God, show me the labels I have accepted that do not come from You. Help me stop defining myself by my past, my wounds, or the opinions of others, and teach me to see myself through Your truth.
🧠 TODAY’S AFFIRMATION:
I will not answer to labels God never gave me.
🔎 QUESTION FOR TODAY:
What label have you been carrying that may no longer belong to the person God is calling you to become?
