Holiday content! 🤩
In one of the polls above, a lot of you opted for holiday content—and in English at that—so here I am delivering!
Today, my son and I went up Elbrus, all 3,847 meters of it (above sea level) that are accessible to regular people who may not be super sporty but still want to enjoy the views.
And here’s what I learned today—about people and myself:
1️⃣ I much prefer mountains to seas and oceans—but green mountains with a sprinkle of snow, not just snowy peaks. I quite like me some textures. Not that Elbrus isn’t stunning! I don’t know if climbers assign female names to mountains, but Elbrus, to me, is definitely a lady. A drop-dead gorgeous one (sometimes literally).
2️⃣ Being that high up didn’t agree with my son, so we had to quickly (well, as fast as the winding queues allowed) go down. That was definitely fine by me—it seems to run in the family.
3️⃣ I finally grasped the magnitude of the accomplishment one of my dear friends repeats regularly (and voluntarily)! She’s a seasoned climber, and today I came a little bit closer to understanding her. I knew intellectually that climbing mountains is tough. That it takes perseverance of truly brutal proportions! I experienced a minuscule fraction of that pressure today and am truly humbled.
4️⃣ The prices... Oh, the prices! Extortion at its finest! I am not talking about ski-passes, I am talking about WC prices! 100 rubles to visit the loo at a cafe where you have just spend 2700 for two chicken soups and two vegetable salads (tomatoes, onion and revived cucumbers. Why revived? 'cause they looked like husks so wilted they were!). And it was at the foot of the mountain, not up there! I should probably shut up about this now...
5️⃣ Women are amazing. They don’t just do makeup on buses—they apply eyeliner!
Have you had any interesting revelations recently?
I’d love to hear them!
P.S. Some more photos in the comments.
