Discovering MLP G4 a Decade Too Late
Growing up throughout the early/late 2010s, it started out with LittleBigPlanet, then GTA 5, FNAF, Bendy, Undertale, etc. I was always into nerdcore related famdoms. and yet meanwhile, the entirety of the MLP G4 fandom was happening RIGHT next to my door as a kid, both metaphorically and almost literally.
I even listened to MLP remixes of songs in high school despite NEVER having seen any of the original episodes. Wooden toaster's Rainbow factory remix was one of my fav songs.
The only MLP thing I'd actually watched was the movie that came out in 2017, and that was because of my ex at the time. I knew basically nothing about the series back then, but the song at the end of that movie is still one of my favorites to this day.
Over the past 3 months, I've finally been watching the original show since it's available for free on YouTube now. I'm currently at Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks.
It honestly bothers me a little that I'm only discovering all of this now, after the fandom has mostly peaked and so many of the people who grew up with it have moved on. I'll never really get to experience the MLP fandom the way I experienced FNAF growing up; being there while everything was happening, seeing the theories, animations, music, memes, fan projects, and everything else come out in real time.
It's especially weird because MLP was THERE the entire time. I was online, I saw the fandom, I heard the music, and I knew about the characters. I was basically standing right next to this massive part of 2010s internet culture without ever actually stepping into it.
Now I'm finally experiencing it years later and realizing, "Damn, I would've loved this as a kid."
So yeah, I'm quite FOMO over it lmao. I just wanted to share my thoughts.
