Best way to use AI assistants without vibe coding

I come from a Fortran and python back ground and wish to quickly get started in C++ for some projects. I’m trying to use AI as a learning + design assistant without sliding into vibe-coding (prompting the AI assistant to generate code). I want workflows where AI helps me brainstorm solutions and architecture designs, catch bad practices, find errors, suggest new features beneficial to be used in my projects and learn syntax on the fly.

How to configure the github copilot to better achieve this purpose? What are your best resources—tutorials, blog posts, videos, or prompt “protocols”—for using ChatGPT/Copilot this way?
