12-year JetBlue Captain considering United or American — what would you do?
Hate the fact that I'm doing this but I'am looking for some honest advice.
I’m a 12-year JetBlue captain, based in FLL, living in central Florida with no plans of moving anytime soon. Bottom of the list in the left seat currently.
I’m 40, so I potentially have 25 years left until mandatory retirement. I’m increasingly concerned about JetBlue’s long-term stability and is considering applying to United or American.
With potentially 25 years left in my career, I wonder if it makes more sense to take the seniority hit now and move to a more financially stable legacy rather than potentially wait until I’m much further along in my career.
And then there’s the other side of the equation: what if JetBlue successfully restructures, turns things around, or gets acquired/merged? I’d hate to give up 12 years of seniority only to watch JetBlue recover.
For those who have faced a similar decision, what would you do?
Would you stay at JetBlue and ride it out, or apply to United/American and see what happens?
Thanks in advance!
