Nine months after Palestinian journalist Abdul Raouf Shaat was killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza, his family welcomed a baby boy named after the father he will never meet.

Shaat was killed on January 21, 2026, just 17 days after his wedding, while carrying out his journalistic duties.

His wife discovered she was pregnant about a week after his killing. In an emotional moment, Shaat's mother held her newborn grandson and cried, “This is your son, Abdul. This is your son, my dear,” as the family celebrated the birth while mourning the father whose life was cut short by Israel's attack.
