Palestinian newborns are being exposed to another terrifying danger inside displacement tents in Gaza City: weasels and other rodents slipping into tents and biting sleeping children.

In March 2026, 28-day-old Adam al-Ustaz suffered a severe bite to his face from a large rodent while sleeping inside his family’s tent west of Gaza City. He was taken to Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Palestinian journalists have since described rodents invading tents, contaminating food and spreading amid piles of rubbish, sewage leaks and overcrowded displacement camps.
