French Government Faces Inquiry Over Arms Deliveries to Israel
In parliament, lawmaker Thomas Portes accused the French government of complicity in the genocide in Gaza by refusing an arms embargo.
Portes cited 525 shipments from French firms aiding Israel between October 2023 and March 2026, plus 35 recent deliveries to Israeli arms maker Elbit Systems.
Commending the CGT, Solidaires, and Urgence Palestine for blocking military cargo, he contrasted France with nations like Spain, Canada, and Belgium.
Portes also pressed the French foreign minister Jean-Noël Barrot over reports that Israel asked Air France—28% state-owned—to screen staff by nationality.
Barrot maintained that France does not sell weapons to Israel. However, citing revelations by l'Humanité, he confirmed that investigations are underway and precautionary measures have been taken.
