Nobel Peace Prize winner Navi Pillay urged the United States to resume a leading role in defending human rights, telling Reuters that Washington's campaign against the International Criminal Court undermines international justice.

Pillay criticised US sanctions targeting the ICC and connected the confrontation to arrest warrants issued in 2024 for Israeli war criminals Benjamin Netanyahu and former war minister Yoav Gallant.

Pillay chaired a UN Commission of Inquiry that concluded Israel had committed genocide in Gaza.
