France has expressed deep regret over the postponement of Palestinian legislative and presidential elections until September 2027, urging the Palestinian Authority to hold the votes as soon as possible.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on October 12 that postponing the elections was “the greatest harm that can be done to the Palestinians,” stressing their right to express their aspirations for self-determination through free and democratic elections.

Paris called for comprehensive elections across the Palestinian territories, emphasizing the need to renew the democratic legitimacy of Palestinian leadership and ensure representation of the people's aspirations for freedom, dignity and self-determination.

France also reaffirmed its readiness to support the electoral process, including through the European Union Election Observation Mission, launched at France's initiative.
