South African jurist Navi Pillay, the former UN human rights chief who chaired the UN Commission of Inquiry on the occupied Palestinian territory that concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza, has won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, announced today in Oslo.


The Nobel Committee honored her for helping ensure that war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide are prosecuted.


Israel responded with attacks on Pillay and the committee. The office of war criminal Netanyahu said the Nobel Committee “has lost its moral compass” by honoring “a bigot” who built her career around “inventing and propagating blood libels,” accused her of joining a “bigoted lynch mob,” and said she “supplied the lies” for a “fake case against Israel.”
