An immigration judge has ruled that Salah Sarsour, president of Wisconsin's largest mosque, can be deported under a Cold War-era law.
Sarsour, a U.S. permanent resident for nearly three decades and American Muslims for Palestine board member, was targeted by the Trump administration over his advocacy.
Detained by ICE in March 2026, Sarsour was freed in June after a federal judge cited likely unlawful retaliation. Officials then fast-tracked a separate immigration track, where Judge Jayme Salinardi deemed him removable.
DHS alleged Sarsour lied on forms and funded terror groups, citing 1989 Israeli military court convictions. Sarsour denied the claims, stating was forced, under torture and threat of rape, to sign documents in Hebrew without understanding them.
He ultimately spent two years in an Israeli prison after being convicted in a military court system that has a conviction rate of over 96% for Palestinians.
His lawyers called the ruling a setback for free speech, while Sarsour vowed to keep fightin
