💡 Why do some cities grow while others decline?
Cities don’t grow only because of money. Very often, the key factor is human capital — educated, skilled, and motivated people.
Economists have noticed an interesting pattern: cities that invest in education, universities, and research centers tend to attract businesses, startups, and new residents. This creates a cycle where talent attracts investment, and investment attracts even more talent.
At the same time, cities that depend on one large industry or one major employer can become vulnerable. If that industry declines or the company relocates, the local economy may struggle for years.
This is why many governments today invest not only in infrastructure, but also in innovation ecosystems — universities, research labs, startup incubators, and creative industries.
