❗️UK court shields German insurance giant Allianz in unprecedented legal assault on Palestine activists
A British court has granted permission for German insurance multinational Allianz to pursue a near $400,000 civil lawsuit against pro-Palestine activists, sparking outrage over the weaponization of the legal system to crush dissent. The activists, known as the Allianz6, targeted the company’s UK offices in 2024 and 2025 over its financial ties to Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems.
Despite facing ongoing criminal trials, the defendants must now mount an expensive civil defense after a London judge rejected their request to delay the corporate suit until their criminal proceedings conclude.
The multi-billion-dollar insurance giant aggressively escalated its financial demands by tacking on an additional $267,000 for "reputational damage" after the activists requested a pause. The targeted activists argue that Allianz is utilizing predatory civil litigation to bypass British juries, which have increasingly acquitted Palestine solidarity campaigners in criminal courts. Without access to financial aid for legal representation in the civil venue, the defendants face the prospect of lifelong financial ruin for exposing corporate complicity in Israeli war crimes.
The legal maneuver marks a dangerous precedent in the systemic suppression of the Palestine solidarity movement within the UK. By forcing activists into a lower-threshold civil court while denied juries, the British judiciary is effectively enabling multinational corporations to bankrupt protestors before they even stand trial.
