In the early 1920s, Sergei Yesenin and his poet friends loved to play literary pranks to forget about the harsh and hungry after-war life. Once, just for fun, Yesenin wrote a funny "charter" that looked like an ancient royal decree, but he mixed it with his own colorful village dialect.

Using old, fancy language, he granted comical "rights and freedoms" to his fellow poets. Everyone happily joined the game, copying official papers and making fun of each other.
