If a foreign student wishes to change their mind on the degree or course chosen, they either have to waste an entire year or go to the back of the line. This is with a 4yr limit imposed. Additionally, students overstaying at all can be flagged immediately as illegal. Students who lose status may be banned for 3 to 10 or more years from reapplying.
