On October 12, 1957, Temple Station Deputy Harold Blevins, 26, was fatally shot, and his partner, Deputy Charles E. Covington, 31, was critically wounded while responding to a pre-dawn robbery call at a restaurant in San Marino.
Deputies Blevins and Covington were the first to arrive at the scene. As their patrol vehicle pulled up, the suspect waited at the entrance and opened fire on the responding deputies.
Deputy Blevins joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in July 1952 and had served at Temple Station for more than two years before making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
We honor the memory of Deputy Harold Blevins and remember Deputy Charles E. Covington, who was critically wounded that day. Their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
