BREAKING: TWO PHILADELPHIA POLICE OFFICERS SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES IN WEST PHILLY, ONE REPORTEDLY STRUCK 12 TIMES
Two Philadelphia police officers were critically injured in a shooting early Saturday morning after responding to a report of an armed man in West Philadelphia.
The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. on October 10, along the 100 block of North 52nd Street.
According to Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, officers were dispatched for a report of a man armed with a firearm on the porch of a residence.
When officers arrived and approached the property, a gunman opened fire, striking both officers multiple times.
One officer, a 33-year-old father of five, was reportedly shot 12 times.
The second officer, described as a 40-year-old father, was also struck by gunfire.
Both officers were rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where they underwent emergency surgery.
Their conditions have not yet been officially confirmed.
Commissioner Bethel said additional officers responded following the initial shooting and attempted to close in on the suspect.
Authorities say the gunman continued firing at responding officers multiple times.
The circumstances surrounding the suspect’s apprehension have not yet been confirmed.
