The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office TN is saddened to announce the passing of retired Sergeant Dan Goodwin, a longtime member of the Rutherford County law enforcement community whose career in public service spanned more than four decades. Sgt. Goodwin passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026.

Sgt. Goodwin’s career was marked by a commitment to service, communication, and the communities he served. From his service in the United States Air Force, to his years in journalism and education, and ultimately his distinguished career with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, he dedicated much of his life to serving others.

Throughout his years with the Sheriff’s Office, Sgt. Goodwin earned the respect and admiration of his fellow law enforcement officers, colleagues, and members of the community."
