NEW: Aiken County SC Deputies responded to an emergency dispatch call for “OFFICER DOWN” off of Powell Pond Road in Aiken, Monday afternoon.

An Aiken County deputy was injured and a suspect died after they traded gunfire Monday afternoon near the Battle of Aiken re-enactment site.

Medical crews were dispatched around 4:15 p.m. to Corry Lane and Powell Pond Road, although the incident itself happened down Scotch Lane.

The private road is near the re-enactment site off Exit 18 of Interstate 20.
