On October 5, 2016, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Owen was killed in the line of duty while responding to a burglary in progress in Lancaster.
Sergeant Owen, 53, was answering a report of a break-in when he confronted the suspect, Trenton Lovell. During the confrontation, Lovell shot the veteran sergeant in the head before standing over him and firing additional fatal shots. Despite the efforts of fellow deputies and medical personnel, Sergeant Owen succumbed to his wounds later that evening.
Sergeant Owen dedicated his life to serving his community and protecting others. In addition to his assignment at Lancaster Station, he served with the Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Detail.
Today, we remember Sergeant Owen for his courage, dedication, and commitment to protecting his community. We also remember his family, friends, and fellow deputies who continue to honor his memory.
