On October 4, 1974, Deputy James J. Foote, 33, was killed in a traffic collision while he and his partner, Deputy Ross Rudin, were responding to a report of a gang fight in the city of Norwalk.
Deputy Foote and his partner, Deputy Ross Rudin, were enroute to the scene when, as they approached the intersection of Curtis and King Road and Everest Street, a 15-year-old DUI suspect ran a stop sign and entered their path. The deputies’ patrol vehicle struck the suspect’s vehicle broadside.
The violent impact claimed Deputy Foote’s life instantly.
Deputy Foote died in-the-line of duty while answering the call to protect others. His service, sacrifice, and dedication to his community will never be forgotten.
