The Alhambra Police Department’s “good boy,” a K-9 named Otis, assisted officers in discovering over 400 pounds of cocaine being illegally transported by a single driver, the department announced Saturday.
Officers were in the area of Valley Blvd. near the 710 freeway, where they conducted a traffic stop. The driver was transporting more cardboard boxes than Amazon on Prime Day (which is coming soon, btw 👀). At first, he said he was heading home to Huntington Park from his cousin’s house and that the boxes were not his. Later came version 2.0 of his lore, and he said he was taking diesel parts to a shop that his friend owned.
Then came the nose that knows. K9 Otis and his handler arrived on scene, and thanks to Otis’ top-tier nose, he alerted to the vehicle, and officers discovered the SUV was packed with approximately 200 kilos of cocaine. Ultimately, Julio Rangel of Huntington Park, CA, was arrested and booked at APD Jail. A round of a-paws for our good boy, K9 Otis. 🐾
