NEW: An Ohio police officer was punched and bitten by a suspect this week while bystanders looked on, an attack that the local Fraternal Order of Police says should be condemned.
The incident happened Monday when an Akron police officer responded to a report of a burglary in progress, according to a Tuesday social media post FOP Lodge 7 President Brian Lucey. Once she reached the scene, she encountered two suspects.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the suspect tried to take the officer's gun during the struggle. He also was found with a crack pipe and 5 grams of crack cocaine.
The suspect and the officer were taken to the hospital, where they were treated an released. The suspect faces multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer and drug possession.
