NEW: A Henry County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer is recovering after being stabbed multiple times while helping law-enforcement officers apprehend an armed suspect following a hit-and-run investigation in southern Virginia.

K9 Zajo, the canine partner of Deputy Logan Grubbs, suffered a puncture wound near his head and eye along with several facial lacerations during the confrontation on Monday, September 28.

"Zajo was taken to a veterinarian for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
