NEW: ICE has lodged an immigration detainer against a 31-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador accused of distributing fentanyl near a Virginia school.

According to ICE, Isaac Melendez-Carranza was arrested by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office on August 20th and charged with:
•Possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school.
•Possession with intent to manufacture, sell or distribute fentanyl.

ICE says Melendez-Carranza illegally entered the United States after wading across the Rio Grande from Mexico. Border Patrol encountered him near Hebbronville, Texas, in April 2016.

ICE Washington lodged an immigration detainer and warrant of removal the same day as his arrest. The Loudoun County Adult Detention Center honors ICE detainers under its 287(g) agreement, despite Virginia's sanctuary policies.
